HTL, formerly Hindustan Teleprinters Limited
was incorporated in Chennai, India in 1960 as a public sector under the
Ministry of Communications to manufacture teleprinters for the national telecom network.

A pioneer in the field, the company produced
and supplied 1.25 lac electro mechanical teleprinters of Olivetti technology till 1987 and
thereafter manufactured 60000 electronic teleprinters based on Sagems know-how upto
1994.

With changes in technology, sea change in
market and customer preferences, the company embarked on an aggressive diversification
plan to become a multi-product company. Through a saga of perseverance and persuasion,
diligence and dedication to survive, it has become a leader in the field of telecom
equipments.

HTL is today into digital switching,
transmission, data and access products.

Forte areas include small / medium / large
telephone exchanges with indigenous C-DOT technology, large switching exchange with
Siemens know-how, Main Distribution Frames and Line Jack Units.

In 1999-2000 fiscal, HTL made revenues worth
4600
million rupees. A 13 fold increase in ten years.

Consistent benchmarking with international
quality standards have gained HTL, ISO 9001 Certification for design, manufacture and
supply of all its products.

HTL have obtained ISO 14001 Certification for Environmental Management Systems (EMS)

Today its products are available outside the
sub - continent also in Russia, France , Vietnam, Sri Lanka, Nepal and in a major way in
Ethiopia.

HTLs turnaround success
has been widely
acclaimed also. The MOU Award for Excellence in Performance in 1998-99
from Prime Minister of India, the SCOPE Award for public sector turnaround success, the Visvesvaraya
Industrial Award, Best Productivity Award and Excellence in Export Award have come its
way. The high power committee of GoI has rated HTL as excellent under MOU Scheme
successively for nine years.
