Channel Digital UHF Radio
10 Channel Digital
UHF Radio (6RU10) is a low capacity digital radio transmission
system. It operates innbsp; the UHF band of
frequencies ranging from 622 to
712MHz. The system can be used
to establish a highly reliable point to point communication
link-up to a distance of 50Km in
a single hop (for example connecting RAX
and MAX)
Inputs to this system are six wire (or four wire) analog
voice channels. The system can cater to ten such channels. These analog voice channels are
digitized into 64 Kbps PCM format and multiplexed to obtain 704 Kbps
digital stream. This signal is frequency modualted and transmitted in the UHF
bank.
In camparison with open wire system, this is very
cost-effective and possesses definite operational advantages which are as under:
System maintenance is easier compared to that of open wire
or cable systems. This is because of the fact that fault is inherently
localised at one of the two ends of the link. This obviates the necessity to move along
the route in search of fault location.
Built-in Test Equipment (BITE) has been provided
for ease of fault localisation. The out of serve system can be restored to healthy
condition quickly by the replacement of plugin modules.
